Join me on the ultimate wildlife photography safari trip to Kenya. We’ll be staying at amazing lodges and enjoying the best game drives the region has to offer. This trip will provide you with amazing opportunities to photograph a wide abundance of species – from lions to leopards, elephants to elands and bee eaters to baboons – the list goes on and on! To maximise photographic opportunities, group sizes will be kept very small, with just 4 photographers per custom built Landcruiser. Each photographer gets their own window seat with ample room in the vehicle for photographic equipment. These small groups will enable you to tailor the trip to whatever you want to photograph and we’ll do our best to get you the photographs you really want.
A standard day will consist of two game drives – one in the morning and one in late afternoon – chosen to give you the best photographic opportunities, both in terms of best light and wildlife activity. This gives you plenty of time to relax and unwind during the afternoon, either by the pool with a drink or editing your photos on a laptop. During this downtime, I’ll be offering a variety of optional workshops, ranging from macro to timelapse, to help improve your photography. For those with partners not into photography, there will be the option of instead enjoying a relaxing spa at the lodge, followed by a sundowner drink on our return.
Workshops we will cover include:
– HDR (High Dynamic Range) – learn how to take the most amazing landscape photographs with this technique.
– Time lapse – capture the true beauty of a sunset by creating a short film out by combining multiple photographs.
– Image stacking – learn how to create macro images with great depth of field.
– Star trails – learn how to photograph the apparent movement of the stars using this technique. The African stars are like no other!
– Silhouettes at sunset – I will take you to the best locations to get beautiful silhouette shots.

Here’s a couple of testimonials:
“I recently returned from a wildlife photography trip in Kenya. Jon was a fantastic leader – always helpful, professional and fun! We had incredible encounters with Kenya’s beautiful mammals and birds, and were lucky to have a precious close-up moment with the elusive leopard. The trip was exceptionally well managed with fantastic choices of accommodation, game parks, and local Kenyan guides and drivers. I felt safe and happy from the moment I was picked up in Nairobi until the moment I was dropped back there at the end of the trip (well a little sad then to be leaving the beauty of Kenya and all the wonderful people I had met behind). Not only is Jon knowledgeable about the wildlife and photography, he is also a lovely warm people-person, which meant the trip was a fun and brilliant holiday.I am definitely going to head back to do future trips with Jon and Norfolk Wildlife Photography, and recommend Jon’s workshops and trips to anyone who loves photography, wildlife and having a good time.”
“A fantastic trip — I would say it was the trip of a lifetime but I want to go again — so many exciting and colourful animals and birds to see and photograph. Our drivers/guides were brilliant, so knowledgeable and pointed out animals to us we had not noticed, even when looking in the same direction. The other people on the trip were great company. Jonathan and Sarah were really helpful in advising us on how to improve our images. If you like photographing wildlife this trip is a must.”

Clients will be collected early from the airport or their hotels (I will provide a list of recommended places to stay) and we set off straight away, leaving the hustle and bustle of Nairobi. We’ll head towards the Majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro and Amboseli National Park, arriving in time for lunch. On the way we will have plenty of photographic opportunities, especially with the Maasai people. On arrival at our lodge, we’ll take lunch and then break for a rest during the hottest part of the day. You can have a siesta, relax by the pool or photograph around the lodge. After a couple of hours we’ll depart on an afternoon game drive around Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is justly famous for its large herds of elephant and with the majestic snow-cap of Kilimanjaro in the backdrop you can’t fail to get some amazing images. This is a truly wild region where the pastoral Maasai and their cattle have lived in harmony with wild creatures for many years. Apart from the elephants, you should also get chances to photograph zebra, lion, wildebeest, gazelle, hyena, giraffe, ostrich, buffalo and a wide range of stunning bird life. We will return to the lodge when darkness falls and enjoy dinner and a few drinks around the bar or camp fire exchanging stories about our days adventure. We will be staying at the Amboseli Serena Lodge (trip advisor rating 4.5/ 5)
We will spend a whole day in Amboseli National Park, exploring and searching for wildlife photography opportunities. As we have a full two game drives we’ll take our time and really appreciate the amazing wildlife which the park offers. Again, we will stay at the amazing Amboseli Serena Lodge.
We will spend another whole day in Amboseli National Park, exploring and searching for wildlife photography opportunities. As we have a full two game drives we’ll take our time and really appreciate the amazing wildlife which the park offers. Again, we will stay at the amazing Amboseli Serena Lodge.
After an early breakfast we will depart Amboseli and drive towards Tsavo West National Park. Tsavo is the biggest park in Kenya and a stunning place to photograph. We will follow Mount Kilimanjaro, passing through local villages and will arrive at our destination in time for lunch. After lunch and a workshop (or siesta, whichever you choose!) we will set our for a late afternoon game drive. On our return we will enjoy an evening meal followed by drinks at the bar with stunning views overlooking a water hole. We will stay at Kilaguni Serena Lodge (trip advisor rating 5/ 5 – number 1 hotel in Tsavo West National Park).
We will spend the whole day exploring the National Park and searching for the best photographic opportunities. Tsavo National Park is is Kenya’s largest wildlife stronghold covering a immense area of 8000 sq miles. Its large size means that it covers a wide diversity of habitats and therefore offers a diverse variety of photographic opportunities, ranging from crocodiles in the rivers to lions hunting on the savannah. In comparison to Amboseli this region is much drier and warmer in the evenings as it is further away from the mountain. Again, we will stay at the beautiful Kilaguni Serena Lodge.
After an early breakfast we will drive through the park towards Lumo Wildlife Sanctuary; a community run reserve. It is one of the only locations that allows night game drives, an experience you won’t forget! We’ll arrive in time for lunch and after a break depart on another game drive. Tonight, we’ll stay at Lions Bluff Lodge (trip advisor rating 5/ 5 – number 1 speciality lodge in Tsavo West National Park).
We’ll spend the whole day exploring the sanctuary whilst getting fantastic photographs of everything from lions to birds. Again we’ll stay at Lions Bluff Lodge.
We’ll spend another full day of safari at Lumo.
After an early breakfast we will depart the camp and start our journey home. When we arrive in Nairobi we can either transport you to the airport or to a hotel. We can assist with further activities in Nairobi, such as visiting the elephant sanctuary or giraffe park.
This will be a trip packed with amazing wildlife and shared with a small group of like minded individuals. Africa is an amazing place to photograph wildlife in, the diversity and density of game simply can’t be beaten and you’re guaranteed to come away with some stunning images you will treasure forever.
